The thieves assaulted two women and two babies
Diana’s Fruit and Vegetable Shop on the Central American Boulevard was robbed by two criminals armed with knives, who got away with an undisclosed amount of money. The incident occurred at about 1:00 Monday afternoon,
The storeowner told Amandala that during the robbery, two children — her baby and her sister’s baby, 2 and 4 years old respectively — were traumatized by the robbers. One of the babies was thrown down by a robber, who put his foot on her (the storeowner’s) head, and the other baby was squeezed while the other robber cut the apron she was wearing to steal the money that was in the apron pocket.
She begged them not to hurt the baby, and to just take the money, she said.
After retrieving the money from the apron, the robber threw the baby into the corner and both thieves ran out of the store and escaped. Police are investigating, but the thieves have not yet been found.
The traumatized shop owner said that she was outside alone with the two babies, when two men approached and made an order, but as she was getting the items, one of them quickly locked his arm around her neck, placed a knife at her neck, and began to force her inside, where her sister was.
The other robber then attacked her sister and threw her down on the floor.
The store owner is calling on the police to conduct frequent police patrols in the area to deter robbers. The store does not generate enough income to enable her to afford security guards, she said.
