BELIZE CITY, Mon. Feb. 3, 2025

Verdes FC took over the standings lead in the 3rd week of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2024-2025 Closing Season tournament with 9 pts, as they enjoyed their 3rd victory, 2-0, over Wagiya Sporting Club at the Carl Ramos Stadium on Sunday evening, February 2.

The hosts held off the Green Machine’s attack for a scoreless draw up to the half, but Desmond Wade (70’) and Jordy Polanco (90+5’) would not be denied, as each found the back of the net to secure the 2-0 win.

San Pedro Pirates FC

The San Pedro Pirates bumped up to 3rd place in the standings, as they also enjoyed their 2nd win, 2-1, over Belmopan FC at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium on Saturday night, with goals by Jaheim Mena (11’) and Bryan Sanchez (88’), after Yrider Olivares (8’) had struck first for Belmopan.

The match between Port Layola FC and Progresso FC was not played, and will be played as a back match, when proper security protocols have been put in place to avoid a repeat of last Friday night’s tragedy.

(AMANDALA Ed. Note: Friday night’s incident was not a PLB match. It was a semifinal game involving two Belize City based teams in the Belize District Football Association’s 1st Division tournament being held at the Marion Jones Sports Complex.)
