Dear Sir,

I don’t expect everyone to agree with any writings. The most important thing for our Belizean people is education.   By educating our people we will have a better understanding of the things that surround us.

For example, the Mennonite community has completed their 50th anniversary in our country. According to historians, they say that several thousand German-speaking Mennonites began coming to British Honduras from since 1958.  And as bad or good luck, they were put (“sold”) on a land where the British knew there is/was black-gold.

Today, after 50 years, the Mennonites have one of the biggest monopolies in our country. There are those that say that the Mennonites have contributed to the development of our country. There are others that say that they did not contribute to the development of our nation, but instead to their personal enrichment. There are those that say that they brought cheap services to the people of Belize. And there are those that say that they have raped our natural resources and the people of our nation for their own benefit.

There are many foreigners that have come to our country to “invest” in the development of Belize by opening stores, shops, hotels, restaurants, etc. etc. etc. This past 15 to 20 years, my roots Belizeans trying to find a way how to make a “dala” to put some food on the table for our children, we finally came up with the sale of used clothes. But, yes but, today as I am writing, the Chinese are starting to do the same. Aren’t these people considered as investors? Aren’t these people considered as one of the most intelligent of the world? Then, what are they doing by copying what we do, up to the sale of used clothes?

Hell man, GOB you have inherited this stuff.   Today you find Chinese selling plantain-chips on the buses. And what about the contrabando. By the way, my Webster’s dictionary says that the word Hindu means, “one of the native peoples of India, esp. N. India. A believer in Hinduism”.

Yes, my dear friend, Dean Barrow, corruption is very deep.   What are we going to do when we won’t be able to sell used clothes and plantain-chips, steal?

Respectfully,
