Dear Editor,
I am writing to you in this month of mental health awareness about a very important matter. It is an issue that hits very close to home for me. As someone who has dealt with family members with mental illness, I know how important it is to have that support during an episode. Family and community support can make all the difference.
In San Ignacio, there seems to be such a case that requires urgent public attention. At the bus stop near the Kontiki Gas Station, there is a young woman who has been living there exposed to the elements for what seems like weeks now. She is reportedly mental ill and refuses help from nearby residents. I call on the relevant authorities to approach her and get her the help she needs.
It is said that a society can be judged by how it treats those who are worse off. I am sure our society can show kindness to this girl and rise up to the challenge.
Thanks,
Carlos Leon
