Crime2 thieves arrested for separate robberies in Corozal and Orange Walk

Police on special operations in Corozal captured one of two robbers who held up the Bargain Center Store, located on Main Street, in Orange Walk Town, on Wednesday, April 16. The thieves had gotten away with over $7,000 in cash and merchandise.

Police said that about 10:00 Wednesday morning, two men went into the Bargain Center Store in Orange Walk and held up the cashier. While she was held hostage by one of the robbers, the other thief stole about 17 cell phones, ranging in prices from $199 to $1,000, amounting to a total value of $7,000, and $250 in cash from the cash drawer, and they then ran out of the store.

The owner of the store, Hugh O’Brien, told reporters that the total loss to the store was $7,250.

The robbery was captured on surveillance camera in the area, although the thieves tried to conceal their identities.

A minor, 17, of Libertad, was later arrested in connection with the robbery during police operations on Holy Saturday. He has been handed over to the Orange Walk police, who charged him with armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Police continue to seek the second thief in this robbery.

A second criminal, Julian Dyer, arrested for another robbery in Corozal, was charged yesterday in the Corozal Magistrate’s court with multiple counts of robbery, and he has been remanded.

After being charged in Corozal, Dyer will be handed over to the Belize City police, who also want him for many offenses committed in the city.
