BELIZE CITY–A 17-year-old female from Belize City has reported to police that she was raped by a man unknown to her inside a hotel on the Philip Goldson Highway early yesterday morning.

The incident reportedly happened at about 1:00 a.m., and police said that when they were called to the hotel, the minor told them that the rape took place after she was picked up by her friend and her friend’s boyfriend in a taxi along with an unfamiliar man of East Indian descent.

The female said that the taxi then went to the hotel, where her friend left her and told her she would be back, after which the man then invited her to one of the rooms, where he raped her.

A medical examination was conducted on the minor and as a result, police have detained a 33-year-old man of the Cayo District pending an investigation.
