The Belize City Primary School Basketball Tournament got underway last Wednesday, January 7, at the Belize Civic Centre with fourteen male teams (7 each in divisions A and B) and five female teams in the competition. Schools represented are: MALE (M): Division A – Holy Redeemer, St. John’s Primary, St. Luke Methodist, Queen’s Square Anglican, Belize Elementary, Central Christian, and Queen Street Baptist; and Division B – St. Ignatius, Stella Maris, Ebenezer, All Saints, Wesley Upper, St. Mary’s, and St. John Vianney; and FEMALE (F): Holy Redeemer, Queen’s Square Anglican, St. Luke Methodist, St. John’s Primary, and Belize Elementary.
 
In games played on Wednesday, January 7, in game one, (F) Belize Elementary devastated St. Luke Methodist, 14-0, with Kaitlyn Woods and Tina Liu scoring 6 points each for Elementary. Game two also saw (M) Belize Elementary outscoring St. Luke Methodist, 15-10. Jordan Villanueva scored 6 pts for Elementary, while Trevaun Chee got 5 for St. Luke. In game three, (M) Stella Maris grabbed the 25-20 victory over Ebenezer, behind Jamaal Cherrington’s 10 pts. In a losing effort, Jovanni Broaster led all scorers with 18 pts for Ebenezer.       
 
In game one of two games played on Thursday, January 8, (M) St. John Vianney got over All Saints, 30-24, with Isaiah Willacey and Aleem Richardson leading the way with 10 pts apiece; while All Saints’ Jerry Lopez had 13 pts. Game two saw (M) St. Ignatius sinking Wesley Upper, 29-16. Bryan Whyte top scored for ‘Natius with 11 pts, while Frederick Williams led Wesley with 6.
 
In the first of three games played on Friday, January 9, (F) St. John’s Primary blanked Holy Redeemer, 12-0, with Roslyn Smith leading St. John’s with 6 pts. Game two was a real contest, with (M) Holy Redeemer getting revenge against St. John’s Primary with a 25-23 win. Rahyme Sacasa led the victorious Redeemer with 11 pts, while Brandon Harris led all scorers with 15 pts for St. John’s. Game three was another one sided affair, with Wesley Upper slamming St. Mary’s, 22-10. Frederick Williams led Wesley with 10 pts, while Lismo Williams and Steven Goff each had 4 pts for St. Mary’s. 
 
On Monday, January 12, in game one, (M) Queen Street Baptist clipped Belize Elementary, 22-18. Elroy McFoy and Enfield Martinez each scored 8 pts for Q. S. Baptist, while Paco Castillo and Adrian Cardona had 6 pts apiece for Elementary. Game two saw (M) St. John’s Primary crushing Central Christian, 34-23, behind 16 pts from Brandon Harris. Wincy Lopez got 15 pts for Central Christian. And in game three, (M) All Saints got over Stella Marris, 19-15, with Jerry Lopez accounting for 13 All Saints pts. Jamal Cherrington led Stella Maris with 8.
 
Game one on Tuesday, January 13, was won by (F) St. Luke Methodist over Queen’s Square by default. In game two, (M) Queen’s Square humiliated St. Luke Methodist, 32-2, with Brandon Tillett and Chevon Castellanos scoring 9 pts each for the winners. Derry Puerto got St. Luke’s only 2 pts. In game three, it was (M) St. Ignatius getting the nod over St. John Vianney, 17-14. Brian Whyte led ‘Natius with 8 pts, while Isaiah Willacey had 7 pts for Vianney.  
 
It was all males in action yesterday, Wednesday, January 14, with (M) St. Mary’s disciplining Ebenezer, 35-5, in game one. Raymond Alvarez led Mary’s with 11 pts, while Jovanni Broaster had 5 pts in the loss for Ebenezer. Game two was another blowout, as (M) Holy Redeemer slammed Central Christian, 34-9, behind 16 pts from Rhayme Sacasa. Douglas Valley led Central Christian with 4 pts.   Game three was a battle of queens, as (M) Queen’s Square Anglican had the upper hand over Queen Street Baptist, 20-14. Chevon Castellanos led the victorious Queen Square with 9 pts, while Elston Flowers had 5 pts for Q.S. Baptist.
