CrimeIt is difficult to find Jawmaine’s killer, police say

BELIZE CITY—Police reportedly are having difficulty finding the killer of cycling icon Ernest “Jawmaine” Meighan, who was murdered on the morning of August 9 on George Street. According to Sergeant Isaiah Sanchez of the Crimes Investigation Branch at Precinct 1, those with information that could potentially be helpful to the investigation are not cooperating and are refusing to give statements.

Police say that they believe that Jawmaine’s death was ordered by the George Street Gang. Their investigation is pointing, they said, to a mission of retaliation by the George Street Gang due to the shooting death of Raheem Crawford, 20 of Gibnut Street, who was an associate of the gang. Gladden was shot and killed at about 1:30 Saturday morning at the corner of Central American Boulevard and Gibnut Street. One individual was held by police but was released due to insufficient evidence.

Sanchez reiterated that it is difficult to get the support of the people in the area, because major underworld players are involved in the killing, and the people are afraid of talking.

Police say that despite all these obstacles, their investigation into the murder continues.
