EDWARD P. YORKE REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL WITH 73-44 WIN OVER SJC

SportsEDWARD P. YORKE REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL WITH 73-44 WIN OVER SJC
With little over one week remaining before the end of the 2007 high school basketball regular season, it comes as no surprise that the games are now becoming more intense and more meaningful, particularly for the title contenders. Contrast this: on one end of the equation you have the contenders, the Edward P. Yorke’s , the Wesleyan’s, the Gwen Liz’s and the Sadie Vernon’s – all focused and busy fine tuning their game as they prepare for the stretch run; while on the other end you have the pretenders, the SJC’s, the ACC’s, SMC’s and the Nazarene’s who now play only for pride; collectively they can’t wait till next year.

In this week’s round-up we start out with the game on Wednesday night, which saw league leading Edward P. Yorke, now (6-0), continue their bid to go undefeated in the regular season, winning handily by the score of 73-44 over the now (2-3) St. John’s College. Winston “Air Jun” Pratt had his lowest output of the season, tallying only 30pts, while his teammates Andrew Estell and Justin “Ginobli” Usher totaled 11 pts each. Meanwhile, for St. John’s it was Edgar August with 19 pts followed by Hughson Tillett with 11 pts and Marshall Nunez with 10 pts.

In the female game played before the male match up, it was St. Catherine Academy winning over Edward P. Yorke by the score of 23-13, and in the process ensuring that they would not go winless in the 2007 campaign. St. Catherine’s Sharon Reid led all scorers with 18 pts, while for Edward P. Yorke it was A. Olivera scoring 4 pts in the loss.

On Tuesday evening in the female division, Pallotti won their sixth game of the season in seven outings, as they took care of Nazarene High School by the score of 37-13. Victoria Zelaya, who is having a stellar season, once again led Pallotti with a team high 10 pts; while for Nazarene it was once again Margaret Flowers leading the way with a game high 12 pts. In the male game, Anglican Cathedral College won by default over St. Michael’s College.

Last Thursday’s scores had Sadie Vernon Technical winning over St. Michael’s College by the score of 57-48. Kyle Domingo 14 pts and Tevin Abrahams 13 pts led the Sadie Vernon attack, while Wayne Loredo 16 pts and Colin Ramclam 11 pts made it happen for St. Michael’s College, who remain winless for the season.

Last Friday evening in the female ranks, Pallotti High won by the score of 49-4 over St. Catherine Academy. Pallotti’s Kara Kisling led all scorers with 14 pts, followed by her teammate Victoria Zelaya with 12 pts. In the other female encounter, it was Nazarene High winning over Edward P. Yorke by the score of 17-11. Margaret Flowers led Nazarene with 10 pts, while Temara Clarke led Edward P. Yorke with 3 pts. The nightcap game saw Edward P. Yorke males winning going away over Nazarene by the score of 69-37. High School Basketball “Player of the Year” Winston “Air Jun” Pratt shook the nets for 30 pts, followed by his teammate Andrew Estell with 14 pts. Nazarene was led by the duo of Christopher Smith and Jason Duran who totaled 12 pts and 8 pts, respectively.
