General — 13 April 2010 — by Aaron Humes
April had seen eight days without a murder, but that streak was violently extinguished around 10:53 on Thursday night.
Renan Reneau, 25, of George Street, was talking with his girlfriend when Death appeared in the form of a lone gunman, who rode up and opened fire, shooting Reneau in the chest.
Reneau’s attempts to flee were fruitless, and he was pronounced dead at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
Reneau is the second of his brothers to die, after Dalton Reneau was similarly murdered in 2006. No one was arrested for that incident.
Reneau is also said to be related to Ervin James, who was also killed on Thursday night, within minutes and streets from Kut and Supal on the dark Ross Pen Road.
Family members told local media that Reneau had no gang ties and no outstanding differences with anyone, making his death a mystery.
We were told on Friday that a certain well-known individual had been arrested and charged and was to have been arraigned for Reneau’s death, but this has been disproved by police, who say they are still investigating.
