CrimeTaxi driver, 31, dies after being shot in the head

Amandala understands that a taxi driver who was shot twice in the head while traveling with an unidentified female companion in the wee hours of this morning unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital late this evening.

Police reports are that around 3:30 a.m. today, Albert Castro, 31, known as “Chick”, was driving his green Mazda taxi on Faber’s Road from the direction of the George Price Highway, with a 26-year-old female passenger of Faber’s Road, when he was ambushed by two gunmen upon reaching the corner of Faber’s Road and Watermelon Street.

The gunmen reportedly rode up to the vehicle and fired several shots in its direction, two of which caught Castro in his head, leaving him in a critical condition up until the time of his death.

Today, we spoke with Sergeant Ismael Westby, NCO of the Precinct 2 Crimes Investigation Branch (CIB), and he said that upon arrival at the scene, police found what appeared to be bullet holes in the roof of the car and in the passenger door.

The female passenger reportedly managed to get out of the car unhurt as the vehicle ran into a nearby drain, and Westby confirmed that while her identity remains concealed, she was known to the victim and investigators are following that angle of the investigation closely.

When asked whether jealousy could have been the motive, Westby said, “At this moment, the investigation is premature so I cannot comment on that, but that is one of the angles that we are looking at right now.”

According to Westby, two persons have been detained in connection with the shooting.
