2006 Strong and Weak Tennis Tournament and 2006 Hall of Fame

Sports2006 Strong and Weak Tennis Tournament and 2006 Hall of Fame

The Belize Tennis Association concluded its 2006 calendar of events last weekend with a Strong and Weak Tennis Tournament at the Belize Pickwick Club. There were over fifty entrances and although it started late due to the bleaky morning, the day turned out excellently. Players ranged from 9 years to 70 years and they all had fun. The winners were Austin Waight and Stefan Musa and the runners-up were America Waight and Demetrio Cortez.

After the tournament a DVD presentation was shown of all the tournaments played this year. It was a professional masterpiece and everyone truly enjoyed it.

The highlight of the night was the introduction of the Belize Tennis Association Hall of Fame for the first time ever. Those players inducted for the year 2006 were females: Mrs. Grace Meighan, Mrs. Lily Bradley, Ms. Dianne Sylvester, Mrs. Rose Musa and Mrs. Hadie Gomez. Males: Mr. Cameron Gabb, Mr. Eric Eusey, Mr. Frank Kuylen, Mr. Oslo “Cito” Gough and Mr. Roy Canton.

All these players were champions in their days. A few of them have passed on, but many are still with us. Every year the Tennis Association will be inducting and adding new names to the Hall of Fame Shield.
