LADYVILLE, Belize District, Mon. Mar. 18, 2019– An elderly woman was injured after someone fired several shots at her house late Thursday night, March 14.
According to police reports, Margret Elijio, 70, was at her home on Marage Road in Ladyville with her children and grandchildren at the time of the incident. Around 10:20 p.m., she heard gunshots ringing out right in front of her house.
Elijio was in her bedroom when a bullet penetrated the wall of the home and struck her in her upper right shoulder. No one else was injured during this shooting, however.
Elijio was quickly transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment. When police arrived on the scene, they found four bullet holes in the front door of her home. They are currently investigating the incident.
At a press brief this afternoon, police said that Elijio is the mother of Jeffery Elijio, 35, who was shot during a home invasion in Ladyville on March 4. Police suspect that the shooter went to the home to shoot Jeffrey, but he was not there at the time.
