Mr. Price, why exclude us from the national anthem?

LettersMr. Price, why exclude us from the national anthem?

This land that today we call Belize had and is always the ?Land of the Gods?. In the past of all civilizations, heroes were looked at as gods. That was the culture. Today we call our heroes, Fathers. George Cadle Price has gained the highest recognition from most of the Belizean people as Father of the Nation; for others he is a hero. For those of the past he would be recognized as a god or a God; all depends on what the people believe.

So, could I say that George Cadle Price is one of the gods (Fathers) of our Nation? For Mr. Price to become the Father of the Nation of Belize, he couldn?t have done so without the support of the Mayans, Africans and our ancestors. So permit me to ask: Why, Mr. Price? Why did you exclude us from your national anthem?

You say that: ?The blood of our sires which hallows the sod?. The blood of our sires, the British and the Spaniards, was shed because of their greed to steal our land from us and use us as their slaves. They fought against themselves for their own benefit, not for us.

Which hallows the sod. ? After they murdered, stole, raped and used us as their slaves, you are telling us that we must sanctify them for rooting us out of our soil? Please, Mr. Price, why did you exclude us from your national anthem? You have been going from school to school teaching our innocent children to worship your Fathers, the Baymen.

We, ?The sons of the Belizean soil,? are grateful to our Almighty God for permitting us to continue having you with us so that we can ask you directly to explain to us the meaning of your national anthem. We made you our hero, our father, our god, our leader to fight against the tyrants, our masters, the sires, the British, and now you tell us that they ?brought freedom from slavery oppression?s rod?. From whom, Mr. Price? From the Mayans, the Africans and our descendants?

The majority of us Belizeans are not and have never been, ?Sons of the Baymen?s clan.? We are proudly sons and daughters of the ?Belizean soil?.

Arise! Ye sons of the Belizean soil, on the call of war and drive back the invaders.

Respectfully,

(Signed)
