It is truly a rare occurrence in team sport where there exist three legitimate players on one team with MVP credentials. Such is the case this year with ?Advance Advertising?, Herbert Samuda (19.0 ppg 4.8 rpg 2.2 apg, 2.8 spg) is one of the eight candidates who may take this year?s honors. He is followed closely by teammates, Delhart Dominguez (19.4 ppg 2.8 rpg 3.2 apg 2.8 spg) and Jerome Ellis (12.2 ppg 5.6 rpg 4.2 apg 4.4 spg). The only obstacle standing between one of these trio and the award could be their team not making it to post-season play, (it is always a plus for an MVP that his team makes the post-season) Other notables include ?Atlantic Bank Ltd.? sensational point guard, Tyrone Edwards (15.4 ppg 5.2 rpg 4.0 apg 2.0 spg), who is in a similar situation as the previously mentioned trio, and who will need to have a big final game if he wants his team to make it to the playoffs and if he has designs of being named ?MVP?. Rounding out the top five is ?Universal Seahawks? Kenrick Samuels, who at this junction is averaging (17.8 ppg 3.4 rpg 1.6 apg 2.4 spg). While Samuels is one of the best finishers around the basket, the knock on him by his peers is that he is lacking in the distribution of the ball and needs to improve on becoming more of a team player rather than an individual player. On the other side of the coin, the ?Police Dept?, who boast a sparkling (4-0) record and who as a team epitomize the concept of ?team ball?, would not have been able to reach this far if not for the play of guard Juvencio Serrano (17.2 ppg 2.0 rpg 3.0 apg 2.7 spg) Earlier this year, Juvencio hit a game tying three-pointer against ?Advance Advertising?, and his team eventually won the game in overtime. Serrano will have to ensure that his team makes the playoffs and will need to put up big numbers in his final three games so as to cement his claim to the league?s MVP. The final two candidates are ?Mesop/Guardian? point guard Bernard Felix (12.2 ppg 2.5 rpg 4.2 apg 3.2 spg) and ?Aero Despatch/Customs? shooting guard Myron Flowers (15.6 ppg 5.6 rpg 3.0 apg 2.8 spg). While both Felix?s and Flowers? numbers are not that great, the intangibles that they bring to the table cannot be dismissed. They are both recognized floor leaders and are the heart and soul of their respective teams.
