Two “wannabe” robbers shot on Swing Bridge

CrimeTwo “wannabe” robbers shot on Swing Bridge
On Friday, just before the evening rush hour began, two would-be robbers got more than they had bargained for when they attempted to rob Javier Castellanos, 35, a security guard who was walking on the Belize City Swing Bridge.

Castellanos told police that as he was approaching Central Drug Store, on the southern approach to the bridge, two men rode up on two separate bicycles and attempted to rob him. The men had come from the direction of Regent Street West.

One of the men was of brown complexion, about 5’5′ in height. He was wearing a white T-shirt with blue 3/4 jeans pants. He was wearing a stocking on his head. The other man was of dark complexion and also wearing a white T-shirt with black 3/4 jeans pants.

Castellanos reported that the brown complexioned man then attempted to grab his licensed 9mm pistol and cell phone. Castellanos’ gun and phone were on the left side of his waist.

Castellanos, upon seeing the dark complexioned man drawing a handgun, kneeled behind one of the supporting posts of the bridge and fired at the two men, hitting both in the legs.

Police visited the Swing Bridge, where they met Kareem Barahona, 26, of # 2 Brides Alley, suffering from gunshot wounds to the left upper leg.

At the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, they observed Edmund Gladden, 34, of #25 Fredrick Street, suffering from a single gunshot wound to his left upper leg. Both men were treated and released into police custody. The police reported that they will file charges against the two.
