Park ranger Oscar Gordon, 30, of Caves Branch Outpost, is unhurt after his co-worker and fellow park ranger fired a shotgun at him, but missed, due to the distance between them. The park ranger was about to fire another blast at Gordon, but another park ranger intervened and took away the shotgun from him.

Gordon then escaped from the area.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 Friday night at the Caves Branch Outpost off the Hummingbird Highway. Gordon told police that on Friday evening, he and his fellow park ranger and the girlfriend of his co-worker went to collect their salaries in Belmopan, and on their return, they went to Franks Eddy Village, where they began to socialize. During that time he spoke to his co-worker’s girlfriend.

According to Gordon, the co-worker got jealous and began to accuse Gordon of having an affair with his girlfriend.

They left the area and went back to their post in Caves Branch. His coworker subsequently left the post, but returned shortly after, armed with a shotgun, which he pointed at Gordon and pulled the trigger.

The explosion alerted the third park ranger, who came out of the guard hut to see what was happening, and that was when he saw his co-worker loading the gun to fire again at Gordon. He quickly struggled with the shooter and took away the gun.

Police have since been looking for the park ranger who shot at Gordon.
