BELIZE CITY, Mon. Feb. 8, 2021– The People’s United Party held two delegate conventions at which they selected municipal slates for Corozal Town and Punta Gorda Town and a PUP standard bearer for Corozal Bay.

In Punta Gorda Town, after a preliminary election with numerous mayoral candidates, Mr. Charles Selgado was selected to be the PUP’s mayoral candidate. To ensure a more accurate representation of the preference of PUP stakeholders, a re-election was held on Saturday, February 6, 2021, with a total of one hundred-and twenty-four (124) delegates who ultimately elected Mr. Charles Selgado, once again, as the preferred PG mayoral candidate. Mr. Charles Selgado will lead the PUP’s Punta Gorda team of councillors, which includes Mary Palacio, Moses Cal, Arnold Williams, Ulysses Guy, Roberto Vairez and Malcolm Galvez in this year’s municipal elections.

Additionally, Corozal Town held a virtual endorsement convention to endorse Mayor Rigoberto Vellos, who will be seeking re-election, and his slate of councilors: Rudolfo Narvaez, Hilberto Clarke, Otoniel Riveroll, Miguel Montalvo, Marleni Tapia and Baldemar Pech, Jr.

Also at the convention, the party endorsed the sister of the late David “Dido” Vega, the previous standard bearer of Corozal Bay, Mrs. Elvia Vega-Samos, as the new PUP candidate in Corozal Bay in the upcoming by-elections on March 3.

On Sunday, February 7, the People’s United Party’s busy weekend continued to unfold. It continued with one hundred and five (105) delegates electing Retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Robert Mariano as the mayoral candidate for Dangriga. His slate will be made up of councilors Gilroy Howard Flores, Martha Robinson, Alfred Petillo, Jr., Liberato Teul, John Edwin Flores and Jerris Valentine, Jr.

A press release from the PUP states, “The Party has now completed the process of putting in place its nine (9) Mayoral Candidates and fifty-eight (58) councilor candidates in all nine municipalities across the country.”

These slates are scheduled to participate in the municipal elections for their respective municipalities on Wednesday, March 3, 2021.
