Wanted in Mexico for femicide

GeneralWanted in Mexico for femicide

BELIZE CITY, Fri. Dec. 8, 2023

The infamous Nimrod Sherman Tillett Catzim, who “walked” from at least 2 murder charges, the most recent in September 2021, is back behind bars tonight after he was further remanded by the Chief Magistrate, Jayani Wegodapola in Court #1 following the granting of a warrant for his apprehension regarding extradition proceedings set to commence on Monday, January 29, 2024 in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Coney Drive.

Tillett, who is still in recovery after being shot, appeared today in good spirits.

Tillett, who has been on remand since October 10, 2023, complained of the food being given in prison, saying that he cannot eat beans, and they only cook rice and beans at the Kolbe Foundation; but said he realized that there is little to nothing the court can do about the food being fed to them, prisoners.

The crown counsel from the Attorney General’s Office, Stacey Martinez made an application for the apprehension of Tillett before the Chief Magistrate, which was granted by the court.

As a result of the application for his apprehension being granted, the court adjourned his hearing until Monday, January 29, 2024, when his extradition proceedings will occur.

Tillett, who had been remanded initially in the interim for 60 days, was today further remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

Tillett, upon hearing that the application for his apprehension was granted, had two questions of concern.

He asked the Chief Magistrate, firstly, if he could be granted bail at this time; and two, if when he was arrested the warrant for his arrest was in the name “Nim,” and he wanted to know if that person is him, as he does not go by the name “Nim,” only Nimrod.

In answering his questions briefly, the Chief Magistrate told Tillett that he will be served with the bundle in questions which he got.

A total of 150 pages was then handed over to Tillett, which included the entire bundle of evidence the crown is relying on at the extradition hearing.

Tillett also asked the court for legal advice, and that’s when the Chief Magistrate steered him into the direction of the Legal Aid of Belize, as he is presently unrepresented.

Nimrod Sherman Tillett Catzim’s extradition hearing is set to kick off on Monday, January 29, 2024 before the Chief Magistrate, Jayani Wegodapola in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Coney Drive.

Allegations being made against the Orange Walk resident stems from back in 2019.

He is accused of killing a female companion in Quintana, Roo, Mexico.

Allegations are that he gruesomely murdered the woman and then discarded her body in a trash can.

The entire murder was captured on surveillance footage, and it is that evidence which the AG Ministry will be using in the Extradition proceedings to get the court to admit as evidence for Tillett’s extradition.
