I started to write after visiting the publisher of this newspaper a few years ago. He apparently saw something in my train of thoughts that I was only vaguely aware of.  I was unsure if my words could sway or hold one’s attention for more than a minute. As the plague made us more isolated, I found that with all this time on my hands, my mind tended to wander into undiscovered places. I found out that if I picked a subject and wrote the first sentence, my mind would take me along, as if driven by some unknown force, I would not stop typing until there was nothing more to say. It’s like being caught up in a strong current and you are powerless to stop until you reach the end of that body of water.
I also found out that if I don’t believe in what I’m writing, it is impossible for me to produce anything legible or that makes any sense. I think that you have to write from the heart to be believable, or to believe in yourself. Once you can do that, then nothing can stop you from putting your thoughts into words. If you don’t speak your truths, then you are nothing more than a hack, in my opinion.
I’m writing about creativity because I believe that we all have some creative streak inside us, every one of us. I think that we just need a spark to be lit in that area of our mind that is otherwise dormant and malnourished. I believe that it’s usually something unexpected that ignites that spark. And then sometimes it might be a lifelong dream, or a longing that had remained unfulfilled for all those years. Unfulfilled because of a lack of belief in oneself, or maybe because one did not take the time to pursue that dream, or because life interrupted you.
For a lot of us, to believe in ourselves is very difficult; I would say, for most of us. Yes, there are those alphas who don’t wait for inspiration but go in search of it, grab it and wrestle it to the ground. Good for them and their courage and determination. It is a brave and noble thing to be creative, to be able to express oneself through words or art or science, and to do so for posterity.
I believe that the hardest thing to do sometimes is to find your niche; but when you are pointed in the right direction, you become unstoppable. The creative juices just keep flowing through your veins, unending and unyielding. You become invincible and insatiable in your drive to excel in your purpose. It has to be the most rewarding feeling ever.
The point of this essay is to let you know that you all have the creative instincts inside you. So that when you are sitting around, your mind listless and wandering about, like an unmoored vessel, use the compass in your mind to steer you in the right direction. Find out what your unfulfilled dreams are, and follow them; make them come true. It might not make you rich or famous, but the satisfaction one can get from finding one’s true purpose is immeasurable, in my opinion.
