A decade of Harvest for Kids

HighlightsA decade of Harvest for Kids

Spanish Lookout, Cayo District, Wed. Sept. 15, 2021– Harvest for Kids, a fundraising arm for the Belize Camping Experience, celebrated a decade of existence and service to children of Belize this week. Back in 2011, the Harvest for Kids initiative started as a means to subsidize the work of the parent company, the Belize Camping Experience. Since then, the entity has emerged as its own organization, guided by the same mission of engaging young people through positive and life-changing experiences and enabling them to develop confidence, competence, and a solid Christian foundation.

Harvest for Kids is primarily aimed at engaging young people in the agricultural sector through the planting of crops, which are sold to generate funding for the children’s ministry program. Harvest for Kids has established relationships with three communities in Belize: Blue Creek in Orange Walk that harvests rice; a community of sugar growers in Orange Walk Town that harvests sugar cane; and the Spanish Lookout community in Cayo, which harvests corn or bean crops.

In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the initiative, the Spanish Lookout community dedicated a total of forty-one acres of land for farming. This year’s harvest saw 100% of the cost associated with the cultivation of the crops covered.

The Belize Camping Experience uses the funds garnered through Harvest for Kids to host summer camps, follow-up sessions, leadership trainings and kids productions.
