Brian Yearwood and Placencia Village Council need to know

PoliticsBrian Yearwood and Placencia Village Council need to know
“It was a ‘Joint Venture Project’ from the very start”…The “land certificate should have been in both the names of the PVC (Placencia Village Council) and a company called ‘Regan International,’” Placencia Village Council Chairman Brian Yearwood told Amandala today…and he is worried that things aren’t playing out the way it was all planned. Are a company called “Regan International” and a few Belizeans pulling a fast one…running away with “the” project? Or is the good Chairman getting all bothered over nada?

Mr. Yearwood says that the previous Village Council, under Mr. Glenn Eiley and the Lots Committee, had conceived a project with Regan International whereby Regan International would develop 102.8 acres of swampland in a prime location on the peninsula. The village, which he says is in need of land for villagers, a new high school, a new community center, a new burial ground, a new football stadium, and a new public parking lot, would receive 160 lots, off the top. But ever since he and his Council took over the reins of the village earlier this year, information on the project has been very hard to come by. Now he has information that a land certificate was issued in the name of Regan International, solely, and the company is advertising “lots for sale” and “marina slips” on “their website.”

Mr. Yearwood says a large crowd of villagers turned out at the ball field last night, Sunday November 4, and they all want to know what has happened to their share of the project. Mr. Yearwood mentioned some key operatives we could check with to help us get to the bottom of this story. Mr. Yearwood says he has been trying to communicate with these operatives for quite a while, but he is getting no reply.

We attempted to reach two of these people Mr. Yearwood told us to contact, but have had no success at press time. We thought we’d run this piece anyway. Maybe through this notice, they will become aware that a Village Council Chairman needs to have a good talk with them, in the interest of his people.
