Corporal Anibal Mena succumbs after road accident

GeneralCorporal Anibal Mena succumbs after road accident

CHAN CHEN, Corozal District, Fri. Sept. 12, 2020– Corporal Anibal Mena, 44, who was attached to the Ladyville police and was posted at the Crooked Tree Police Station as the Corporal-in-Charge, was driving his motorcycle from Corozal Town to Chan Chen at about 4:30 on a Thursday evening two weeks ago when he collided with a pickup.

As a result the policeman suffered massive head and body injuries. He was taken to the Corozal Community Hospital, after which he was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted in a comatose state.

He was then taken to the Belize Medical Associates in Belize City, where he fought for his life, but at about 1:00 this morning, 9 days after the traffic collision, he lost the battle and was declared dead.

The driver of the pickup with which Mena’s motorcycle had collided, Santiago Victorin, 56, of Chan Chen, told police that he was driving towards Chan Chen when he put on his indicator, to indicate that he was turning left at the junction of the Patchakan Road, and he was turning his Toyota Hilux pickup, when he felt a slam behind his vehicle.

Victorin told police that he stopped and got out of his vehicle to see what had happened, and saw a man lying on the road with his Meilun motorcycle next to him. The man was bleeding from his ears, mouth and nose.

Victorin said that he immediately rushed the man, identified as Corporal Anibal Mena, to the hospital in Corozal Town.

Victorin was served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution.
