BELIZE CITY–I say to all cricket fans, a very Happy New Year to all. I pray this year will be one of the very best years of cricket ever being played in the River Valley.

Over the weekend, the AGM for the Harrison Parks National Cricket Competition was held in Bermudian Landing. The executive body that held the official posts for the last two years was dissolved, and a new body was elected to serve for the next two years. They are: Mr. Jeremy McCulloch (President); Mr. Dirk Sutherland (Vice President); Mrs. Melonie Rivers (Secretary); Mr. Peter Young (Asst. Secretary); Mr. Leroy Banner (Treasurer); Miss Daphne McFadzean (Asst. Treasurer); and Mr. Derrick Hendy (Committee Member).

The executive will meet later this week to discuss matters of interest, including starting date for competition. It was agreed, though, at the AGM that there will no Marathon, but a T/20 will take its place. The date set is January 30, if weather permits. Whatever decisions are made, will be made public via the media.

I now take this opportunity to send out my deepest condolences to the Bennett and Banner families of Lemonal Village on the sad passing of one of Surprise Cricket Team’s greatest players, Rudolph “Teano” Bennett. Teano was one who was good at bowling, batting and fielding. May his soul rest in peace. He passed away in Los Angeles, California. Also, condolences go out to the Pook families in Rancho Dolores and Dawson family in Gardenia Village on the passing of Junior Dawson of Gardenia. May his soul, too, rest in peace.

See you next week. One love.
