Cricket: Sunrise hits Brilliant hard

SportsCricket: Sunrise hits Brilliant hard

BELIZE CITY, Wed. Mar 25, 2015–The Harrison Parks National Cricket Competition 2015 continued over the weekend with the following games played.

Brilliant of Crooked Tree, to play Sunrise at Lords Bank. What a lovely day it was for cricket. Brilliant took to bat first. Early in the game, things weren’t going well for the Brilliant Boys, as wickets start falling by bowlers Edison Parks and Conway Jones. When 5 wickets fell, Brilliant had scored a mere 38 runs. Later on in the game, the batting started to show good improvement, so the Sunrise captain called in Zaghlool “Zaggi” Muhammad with his tricky left-hand bowling. Things changed again in favor of the home team. Zaggi took down 4 of the remaining 5 batsmen. Brilliant was all out for 83 runs. Brilliant’s C. Lewis top scored with 12 runs, while Zaggi took the most wickets, 4. After lunch break, it was time for Sunrise to start shinning. The bowling for Brilliant at the start of the second half was very good. At the fall of 5 wickets, Sunrise had scored 41 runs. When the sixth man went in, things changed in Sunrise favor. Kenroy Reynolds, bowling for Brilliant, was doing his best. Although he took the most wickets (4), Sunrise surpassed the score, 86 to 83, with 5 wickets to spare. Michael Sobers top scored for Sunrise with 27, and Kenroy as aforementioned took 4 wickets for Brilliant. That ended a well-played match.

In other games, Brave Union lost to Suga Boys, 122 to 126 with 4 spare wkts. For Brave Union, Jamal Stevens scored 29, while Jaime Wade took 4 wkts.  Orwin Wade top scored for Suga Boys with 35, while Roshane Flowers took 3 wkts for Brave Union.

The results came in from Isabella Bank, where Wicked 11 defeated Uprising, 207 to 132.  Edison “Sheep” Robinson top scored for the Wicked Boys with 46, while Derrick Hendy took 4 wkts for Uprising. Lawrence Morales top scored for Uprising with 35, while Tyron Bood took 3 wkts.

At Lemonal, Easy Does It overpowered Bright Star, 230 to 63. Cyril Banner top scored for Easy Does It with 66, while Kylin Moody took 4 wkts for the Stars. Marlon Rhaburn scored 14 for Bright Star, while Kenroy Reynolds took 4 wkts for the Easy ones.

Cahsu Medicos lost to Berlan, 84 to 85 with 6 wkts to spare. Vijay top scored with 17 for Medicos, while Charles Stamp took 4 wkts for Berlan. No other stats for that game.

The following games are scheduled for this Saturday, March 28. Excellence vs Easy Does It at Lemonal (back match); Isabella Uprising vs Brilliant at Crooked Tree; Brave Union vs Sunrise at Boom; Berlan vs Wicked 11 at Flowers Bank; Cahsu Medicos vs Suga Boys at Lords Bank.

On Sunday, March 29, Brilliant vs Brave Union at Crooked Tree (back match).

NOTE: The back match between Western Eagles and Excellence on Sunday, March 29, has been postponed due to the passing of Mrs. Pearl Tucker.

Have fun, family, friends and fans.

As I close, I take this opportunity to express, on behalf of the Belize National Cricket Association and my family, our deepest sympathies to the Sutherland and Tucker Family of Rancho Dolores on the sad passing of Mrs. Pearl Tucker nee Sutherland.  May her soul find peace with our Maker.
