How do you like this PUP, Braa? They set up three brothers on a full color television station to discuss party business…choosing of a new leader from among three boxers. The three brothers are all riding with the same candidate, and they are singing his virtues to the nation. And they are hanging dirty linen, shush pan tap a shush, pan the other two. The one da Albert Street di ketch hell, and the one da OW di get brush. But the one that they love on Positive V is getting da love. Aha, we are to listen, but we are not to join the fun. Yap, don’t butt into our business, they say. And then they spread more dirty linen on the line.

These people have plenty money to buy clothes dryer. But they want to play media…on their one way street. Naa! Ai, this is a family with real serious issues. Someone suggested prayers. Someone said black candles. Hn, they should be glad that right now I am not in the mood to discuss their democratic process…that they are throwing into the fan.

Another thing about this dratted PUP. They say the independent media are on a big honeymoon with the reds. On that they are damned right! It looks just about now like the UDP can do any foolishness they want. These people are going to ruin the economy again, and not a peep from the media to protect our country. It’s not right.

I think this media has its eyes clogged up with a few tree trunks of PUP corruption. Please, why are they so concerned about a little bit of innocent PUP graft? That’s done and past…blown away with a lee breeze. Does someone really feel we can get our loot back? Did we get it back the last time? Practice a little love…and forgiveness. If that don’t work, send for sour grapes. Yap, money lost is just…paper. Gone away in the lee breeze!

Check this, I hear Miss Zenaida has been firing people hand over a fist at City Council. When she isn’t firing people she is on jet plane. When she come back for a short visit (to collect her pay…and to fire more people), countless hours are wasted in the readjustment to life in Belize after the jet lag. Small wonder she can’t find the time or energy for the important work…like signing Mr. Archie Lee’s liquor license. Yes, time for big parties abroad…but no time to do the important job she is being paid for. Ai.

If that isn’t bad enough, the other day she had some kind of spell…and attacked Mr. Vaughn Gill because he dared to criticize her lack of production! I saw the whole thing on television, with my own two eyes. I say, women’s week or no women’s week, this lady must be brought to justice. What is the law waiting for? Everybody see the tape.

There is more mess at this Belize City Council. Being country I shouldn’t be sweating too much fever about them, yu know; but when they do bad in the city it spreads everywhere. I read the Belize Times every week. It’s in there that I learned that a Mr. Joe Bradley, a red party favorite, doesn’t report to work at City Council until 11 o’clock. Of course, yu can’t swear for the truth in the Times anymore because Mr. Steinhauer isn’t there. So.

Mr. Anthony Michael made big promises to pave streets in Belize City. Nada. Build up city people hopes…for absolutely nada. This UDP doesn’t believe in fulfilling promises. Fifteen years later we are still waiting for the free tuition, the free books, and the free land. Now, when the PUP mek promises, they get the job done. If it was the PUP, by hook or crook or cover Benjamin, they would have got that mission accomplished. They promised to sell the port, and they sold it. They promised to sell the telephone company, and they sold it. They promised to build a brand new city in the jungle (without help from the British) and they…ehm…ehm…were building it. Now this daam UDP can’t even pave two streets. This ya five years is going to be very rough on the people. One month and we done di suffer aready.

H. Sedi Elrington reportedly said it might be a country error, yap, there is possibility that it was Bz dollars and not US cold cash flowing to coffers from Venezuela for to help the other party in the last elections. What, and nobody from the belly of the blue beast come up vociferously to deny it? Ever heard of child whose hand wasn’t in the cookie jar afraid to say NO?

Braa, Mr. Sedi should a mi name Hubert. Now, there’s a man! How long are we going to wait to find out if it was Bz or US dollars, Brother Sedi? Neighbors to the south are having problems with other neighbors to the south. The longer we pussyfoot, the harder to get veracity about the money. Yes, what are you afraid of, Mr. H. Sedi? Go on, give 2% commission to Brother Hubert. Nepotism? How? All a we da faamli da Belize.

Uh-uh…Big News Flash just now! Former PM Said Musa just announced weh di Venezuela US 10 million gaan. Well, who nevva know, know now. Ai, and while the grass di grow the horse di starve. Yup, while H. Sedi Elrington procrastinated, fiddled, Brother Hubert lost out on a big fat 2% commission. This five years under the UDP cannot go too fast.

Well, I’ve run out of mud to stick on the new UDP. Oh drat, I almost forget: Ooh, I saw the way out super fabulous Rolex watch (the one Mr. Dickie Bradley used to tell tales from the rostrum about) on Channel Five television news on Monday. There was a brief exposure to sunlight when the man reached over to sign the mega multi-million dollar grant from Europe. Damn, is that thing really gold? Hn, one time Belize had a Premier who couldn’t even afford a valise. Yap, Belize Head of State used to ker ih clothes een a kaatoon box. We’ve come a long way.

Hey, if you see anymore wicked doings in the new government, from rivva batam, I’m here for the exposure. Meanwhile, watch dehn faysi PUP. When ih come to dat deh crowd, noh blink.

Sound bites from Mr. Slusher’s important speech

The following are short excerpts from a presentation (published in the Amandala) by former Governor of the Central Bank, Mr. Alan Slusher, given at the 22nd Adlith Brown Memorial Lecture.

It is clearly unacceptable that the top income-earning 5% of the population in any society should be able to lay claim to 40% of the income, while the bottom 20% of the population can only lay claim to 5% of the income.

All across the region there appears to be a growing tendency, more evident in some countries than in others, for the political leadership at the ministerial level increasingly to involve itself in day-to-day operational issues, rather than concentrating on visioning and strategy…The leadership is not as engaged as it needs to be, particularly in these troubled times, in setting the standards for discipline and for acceptable behavior in the society.

Now Belize, what are we going to do about it? Or do we think changing governments is sufficient? This noh done ya!
