On Sunday morning, at around 5:15, Frank Usher, 16, of Roaring Creek village was found in a nearby village, Camalote, behind a friend’s yard in the bushes with a gunshot wound in the chest. He was taken to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan, but died some 40 minutes later.
According to residents of the area where the discovery was made, the sound of two gunshots was heard nearby. The friend with whom Usher was reportedly staying for the past two weeks wished not to make any comment on the incident because he said he was not at home when the incident had occurred.
Usher, whose biological mother had passed away some years ago, was under the care of his foster family since the age of 9, and this evening they were devastated.
At around 6:00 on Sunday morning, his foster mother received a call from the Western Regional Hospital that Usher had died.
According to the mother, the last time she saw Usher alive was on Saturday night; she warned him to be careful, since Usher was reportedly getting threats for well over a month.
Allegedly, the threats came over a gun that was given to Usher, but later, Usher could not account for the firearm,
We also learned that Usher was fearful for his life, and that that was the reason why he was partly staying in Camalote Village. We were told that Usher would go to the friend in Camalote to sleep, and then would return home to Roaring Creek Village early in the morning.
Although Usher was not the mother’s biological son, the mother said that she was saddened by his passing. She added that he was very helpful.
Usher’s body remains in the Belmopan morgue.
