A great concern has come to my attention and other staff members of the Golden Princess Casino located at the Corozal Commercial Free Zone this week.
A memo was posted to all staff members that no one is to visit Las Vegas Casino – which is the company’s competition and is located in the same area – failure to comply will result in immediate termination.
Our concern is if this policy abides with the labor laws and in general with the constituency of our country. As Belizeans we are granted the right of freedom and choice. We as employees feel that this is violating our right of freedom, since it is directly affecting our personal life. It should be our personal choice where to spend our leisure time and, furthermore, to enjoy the entertainment that such legally established business offers.
Probably this decision was brought about due to the fact that all non-local management of the Golden Princess Casino have been banned entry to Las Vegas Casino, but they brought this upon themselves due to that they threatened their local colleagues found in the competitor’s establishment to be fired if met there again.
So we would like that the right authorities would look into this matter and give us a response, since our much needed jobs have been placed in jeopardy over a personal choice of entertainment.
