CrimeMan Killed On New Year’s Day In Santa Cruz Village

SANTA CRUZ Mon. Jan. 4, 2021–Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in Santa Cruz Village, Stann Creek District, on New Year’s Day.  The victim has been identified as Kelvin Lindo, 24.

On New Year’s Day Independence police visited the residence of Herminio Alvarez, 50, a Honduran labourer of Santa Cruz Village where they found Lindo’s body face down at the back of the residence with a gunshot wound to the center of his chest. Alvarez told investigators that 10:30 pm he and two other persons were socializing in his yard when Lindo approached at which point, he went inside and shortly there-after heard an argument and what sounded like a gunshot.

Alvarez is currently in police custody and two suspects are being sought.  Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett said that the motive is an old dispute over drugs between the men.
