Eight months pregnant, Williams, a resident of Gardenia, a village, 22 miles on the Northern Highway, hanged herself yesterday morning, Wednesday.
Police said that they received a report sometime after 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, that the lifeless body of Williams was found hanging from an extension cord that was attached to the beam of her home. Police said that the house, in which she resided with her daughter, did not have any partitions, and Lavern was found at the direct center of the house.
The relative said the young man for whom Williams was pregnant at the time of her death no longer wanted to have anything to do with her, much less the child inside her.
The relative also told us that the mother of the deceased met him this morning, January 13, and told him that she was over at her daughter?s house Wednesday, around 8:30 a.m., and had left to go and get her daughter something to eat. The mother, according to police, lives about a quarter-mile away from her daughter, who lived on the roadside.
The mother told the relative that before she left, Lavern said to her, ?Ma, a wah heng myself.?
She said that recently Lavern had been saying that a lot, but she had casually dismissed it. When Lavern told her that on Wednesday morning, her mother ignored her remark, and told her that she would be back with the food she was going to get for her.
She told the relative that when she returned to her daughter?s house, which was sometime around 10:30 a.m., she did not believe it when she found her daughter hanging from a beam of the house from an extension cord, with her tongue hanging out of her head.
The mother got help to take down Lavern. She immediately cut her down from the cord and placed her on the bed, but she was already dead, said the family member.
At the time of the incident, Lavern?s 5-year-old daughter, a primary school student, had already gone to school.
Lavern Williams? body was later transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where it awaits a post-mortem, scheduled for Friday, January 14.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made for Lavern.
She leaves behind her daughter, 5; her brothers; her mother; her father; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her death.
