For many years we criticized the Musa administration because of CORRUPTION. For many years we have been calling for REFORMS to the constitution of Belize to be implemented to achieve the most fundamental rights for all, all Belizeans on SOCIAL JUSTICE. For many years we have been calling out to the different GOBs to comply with their responsibility to the Fundamental Rights of my Maya brothers and sisters of Toledo who have the constitutional freedom to continue living with our ancestral, cultural way of life on our ancestors’ Communal Land.
While I was at the library I picked up the Reporter newspaper and read that the P.M. is appointing his brother to hold a post. We the common people understand that the P.M. is giving his brother a job and that the Leader of the Opposition needs to agree. It so happens that the P.M.’s brother is a very good friend of the Leader of the Opposition, so it went clear. Isn’t that called nepotism?
It could be that I am wrong, so let me go to my old Webster’s dictionary, which says the following: “NEPOTISM— Favoritism shown by those in high office to relatives or friends.”
Now I am confused and I ask myself: Why does the UDP make such a fuss when the PUP does the same thing? According to the UDP Manifesto the P.M. said: “Enact a new code of conduct law governing all elected officials, defining and outlawing conflicts of interest, nepotism, cronyism, and lack of transparency in public action and affairs.” Boy, this is heavy stuff. Is the P.M. complying with what he said? As I have said before, corruption starts from above.
On Tuesday, June 23, 2009, I heard the Minister of Education on the KREM WUB morning show. I want the Minister of Education, Hon. Patrick Faber, to know that I as a born citizen of Belize and a father who has a child going to school agree with him. I also believe that the “Teachers Service Commission” will serve very well for the adjustment that is needed to solve many of the chronic problems that exist in the educational system.
Unfortunately, Mr. Faber, the majority of the time when a commission is set up it is formed of families and friends. There is a decision you have to make, and for that you need a lot of bolas, plus I don’t know if the P.M. will back you up.
Anyhow, Mr. Faber it is impossible to serve two masters at the same time. What I want to say with that is what I wrote several years ago where I mentioned that the system needs to separate the religious schools from that of the State if you want to see improvements in our education and give the opportunity to the less fortunate ones to gain an academic or technical education. All that money that is spent is the people’s money. All that is in Belize should be for the Belizeans.
Therefore, no one, let me repeat, no one is giving us anything. The way the system is set up is to make believe that we are getting a free primary education. Scholarships are given to the few, and that should not be the way because, as you may know, this is a wealthy country, so education should be of the best and free from primary level up to university. Then and only then we would be getting serious.
After listening to what you said by phone on KREM, I went to our senior citizens office which is located at the Corozal Central Park. It is almost impossible to meet all of us at one time. But there is our point of contact to exchange information. I asked those that were there at the moment what they thought about the “Teachers Service Commission,” and one of them said to me the following: “Brother Luna, I won’t answer your question.”
“Instead of that, let me tell you that the ambassador the USA is sending to Belize is a good friend of Obama, because he was the one who used to pick up Obama’s cricket balls. He, Obama, is not sending a Hindu because he is intelligent and can probably do something for the niggers, pania and kerobi; he is sending the less intelligent one for his own personal benefit.”
“Do you know what you are telling me?” I asked. “Could that have something to do with the dual nationality and the ICJ issue?” He responded, “I leave that as homework for you.” And each of us went our way.
