No one cares … at the City Council!

LettersNo one cares … at the City Council!
Dear Editor,

When the Belize City Council announced that you “must go to the office” and pay to get your discount on property tax payment, a city counselor reportedly remarked that in doing this, it would be “cracking a few shells” to get the City Council’s desired goals.

He meant that if someone had to suffer for them to meet their goals, then that someone just had to suffer.

We, the public, wonder what will happen to all the collectors and their families, because the collectors used to make a living from the commission gotten when they brought in the residents’ payments.

Now, they have nothing to get, because the City Council wants it all. After years of faithful and honest service to the public, the Council doesn’t care about the suffering of the collectors and their families, and even the people that they are supposed to serve.

It was very convenient for the collectors to bring the bills to us, and come back and collect when we were able to pay.

Don’t ask for whom the bells toll. Service to the people!
