GeneralPrison under lockdown until all clear

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Oct. 31, 2022

The Belize Central Prison has advised the public that the facility will be placed on lockdown on Wednesday, November 2, and will remain closed until Tropical Storm Lisa has passed and an all-clear is issued by NEMO.

The Kolbe Foundation, which manages the facility, made the announcement today. The release further states, “during this closure, absolutely NO visits with inmates nor business transactions with customers of the prison will be conducted.” At this time, there are projections that the system will turn into at least a Category 1 hurricane. A hurricane watch is now in effect for the entire country.
