This past weekend was loaded with exciting playoff action in the Dangriga Town Council Mayor’s Cup football tournament.
In Game One last Friday at the Carl Ramos Stadium in beautiful Dangriga, Revolutionary Conquerors edged New Site FC by the score of 1-0 from a goal in the 26th minute of play by Leonard Valdez.
In the second game, Silk Grass and Belize Defence Force played to a 1-1 draw. Terrence Young scored for Silk Grass in the 34th minute of play but Mark Joseph scored the equalizer ten minutes into the second half.
In Sunday’s action, Benguche FC shocked New Site FC with a goal in the 90th minute to get the 4-3 victory.
Eric Vasquez gave Benguche the early lead with a goal in the 15th minute of play. Wasani Ramirez scored the equalizer in the 38th minute but Clifford Usher scored the following minute as Benguche regained the lead.
Three minutes into the second half, New Site was back in action as John Chimilio equalized in the 48th minute of play. Lennox “Criminal” Castillo then scored in the 70th minute to put Benguche in the lead once more. But Myrick Caliz answered in the 81st minute to level the score at 3 goals apiece.
Just when the game was about to end in a 3-3 draw, Glen Tench scored the ultimate game winner in the 90th minute to give Benguche FC the 4-3 victory.
In the second game, Southside FC defeated Silk Grass FC by the score of 2-0 from 2 second half goals by Clifford Ramos and Arlington Serano in the 58th and 76th minute, respectively.
The playoff round will end this Friday with two match-ups at the Carl Ramos. Belize Defence Force will take on Revolutionary Conquerors in Game One at 6:30 p.m. New Site FC and Silk Grass FC will square off in Game Two.
The finals for the Dangriga Town Council Mayor’s Cup will feature the monster rematch between Revolutionary Conquerors and Benguche FC. This weekend’s match-up between New Site FC and Silk Grass FC will decide who will play Southside for third place.
