SADIE VERNON TECHNICAL CAN CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH WITH WIN TOMORROW OVER ANGLICAN CATHEDRAL COLLEGE

SportsSADIE VERNON TECHNICAL CAN CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH WITH WIN TOMORROW OVER ANGLICAN CATHEDRAL COLLEGE
Update from games played on Thursday, November 22, in high school basketball showed that Gwen Liz ladies (GLH) had their way with the ladies from Sadie Vernon Technical High (SVTH), walloping them by the score of 39-19 behind Andrea Andrews and Tifarah Swift, who both struck for 10 pts each. Meanwhile, for SVTH it was Kenisha James and Melonie Trapp scoring 5 pts each in the loss. With the win, Gwen Liz remains undefeated and, with a win today against the ladies of Edward P. Yorke, will clinch the #1 seed position entering the playoffs.

Meanwhile in the male circuit, it took GLH boys double overtime to put away the feisty SVTH team. There have been two double overtime games so far this season, and GLH has been involved in both of them. Earlier this month, on the 2nd November, GLH lost by the score of 83-79 in double overtime to defending champs Wesley; however, this time around they were on the winning end, winning by the score of 69-67 over SVTH in a hotly contested game. Hubert Baptist of GLH was the game high scorer, totaling 19 pts, while his teammate Sherwin Garcia tallied 16 pts. SVTH had Kyle Domingo scoring 18 pts, followed by Tevin Abrahams with 13 pts. With the win, GLH now stands at (5-1) and, more importantly, set up today’s “Game of the Week” match-up which will feature GLH facing off against league leader Edward P. Yorke (EPYH) this evening at the City Center.

Additional scores from last week had the ladies of Wesley (WES) winning by default over Anglican Cathedral College (ACC) on Friday night last, and in the male encounter it was WES winning over ACC by the score of 68-46. Shaquille Smith 19 pts led WES, followed by Gershom Rodriguez with 12 pts. For ACC, Glenford Chimilio had 24 pts, followed by Stafford Young with 17 pts. In the final game played on Friday night, St. John’s College (SJC) won going away over St. Michael’s College (SMC) by the score of 69-28. Edgar August and Marshall Nunez, Jr. led SJC with 15 pts each, while for SMC it was Rafael O’Brien scoring 11 pts, followed by Raymond Allen 6 pts.

This past Monday, the action resumed with the ladies from Wesley (WES) winning effortlessly by the score of 41-21 over St. Catherine Academy (SCA). Britney Nunez and Ashley Gladden scored 15 pts and 14 pts, respectively, for WES; while Shanee Reid managed 15 pts for SCA. In the male game, Leroy Louriano 22 pts and Gershom Rodriguez 12 pts led the charge for WES, as they won comfortably over St. John’s College (SJC) by the score of 69-55. Marshall Nunez, Jr., who lately has been putting up consistent numbers, was once again the high man, totaling 19 pts; his teammates Terrence Bermudez and Hughson Tillett chipped in, with both scoring 8 pts each.

Tuesday evening saw the ladies from Nazarene (NHS) strengthening their chances for post season play as they edged Sadie Vernon Technical (SVTH) by the score of 12-11. Margaret Flowers led NHS with 9 pts, and Melanie Trapp led SVTH with 4 pts. While post season ambition for the ladies from SVTH may just have been eliminated, the males, on the contrary, may just have sealed their playoff berth, after a convincing 66-46 win over NHS. SVTH Richard Flores 15 pts was the game high scorer, while his teammates Kyle Domingo and Whitfield Mortis contributed 11 pts each in the win. For NHS, it was Christopher Smith 12 pts and Jason Duran 8 pts leading the way.

On Wednesday evening, the ladies from Pallotti High (PHS) won going away over Edward P. Yorke by the score of 39-4. Victoria Zelaya, who has been one of the more consistent players this year, once again led her team with 13 pts, followed by Kara Kisling 11 pts. Meanwhile, in male action, Gwen Lizarraga High (GLH) thumped the hapless St. Michael’s College (SMC) team by the score of 85-50.  GLH Hubert Baptist had a breakout game, totaling his season high 36 pts in the win; he was followed by Andre Diego 17 pts. SMC, who is now one loss away from closing out the campaign winless, was led by Colin Ramclam 18 pts and Wayne Loredo 17 pts.
