Texmar still undefeated, and Tsunami grabs first win in Super League football

SportsTexmar still undefeated, and Tsunami grabs first win in Super League football
At the end of Week 4 in the 2008 Belize Bank Super League Tournament, last year’s champions Texmar Boys remain undefeated, and newcomers Lucky Strike Black Orchid are still winless, while another newcomer, Tsunami F.C. of Caye Caulker achieved their first Super League victory at home.

On Saturday night at the MCC in Belize City, Lake-Collet Survivors registered their second win as they clipped visiting San Felipe Barcelona, 2-1, on two very early goals by Albert Arnold, at the 4th and 6th minute of play. San Felipe’s Kenny Witzil got their only goal at the 34th minute.

In the first of four Sunday afternoon Super League games, Barrio Fino Corozal travelled to Lucky Strike Village to hand Lucky Strike Black Orchid their fourth straight loss. Francisco Vella put the visitors ahead at the 17th minute, but Jermaine Zuniga quickly replied for the Lucky Strike home squad at the 20th minute to tie it up at 1-1. The score remain tied at half-time, but Barrio Fino regained the lead and a hard fought victory with a 79th minute goal from Miguel Arana for the final 2-1 score.

Meanwhile, out west at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio, the visiting Kraal Road F.C. also gained their second victory with a 3-1 put down of the Western Rebels. Delroy “Tin Man” Andrews put Kraal Road on the scoreboard at the 17th minute, followed immediately after by Raymond Gentle at the 18th minute for the 2-nil lead. Michael Burton cut the lead in half for the Rebels at the 54th minute, but that was as close as they got, as Raymond Gentle closed the show with his second goal at the 90th minute for the final 3-1 Kraal Road victory.

In another Sunday afternoon encounter, Belmopan’s Isidoro Beaton Stadium was the scene for the Norman “Tilliman” Pipersburg show, as the veteran striker showed he still has the golden touch, serving a hat trick and leading Texmar Boys to a 3-1 victory over home standing Cayo South United. Tilliman burned cotton at the 20th, 42nd and again at the 72nd minute, before Wayne Wiltshire replied for Cayo South at the 88th minute to avoid the shutout.

In the final Sunday afternoon game, at the Caye Caulker Field it was home standing Tsunami emerging the 4-3 victors in a shootout with Valley Renaissance from Dangriga. Hungry for their first win, Tsunami jumped out to a commanding 3-nil lead on goals by Rupert Smith, Stephen Arnold and Javier Charves at the 10th, 22nd and 25th minute, respectively. But Kenroy Arthurs replied for the Valley a couple minutes later at the 27th minute, followed by Dwayne Sampson at the 34th to make it a 3-2 ball game going into intermission. The guys from the island got a bigger cushion when Deris Benavides struck at the 48th minute to make it 4-2; but the Valley came fighting back with a goal from Alexander Peters at the 60th minute to make it 4-3. Neither side could find the target again, though, and the long whistle saw the Tsunami team and fans celebrating their first victory in Super League semipro football.
