GeneralThree shot on Simon Lamb Street

Belize City,Thurs. Sept. 23, 2021– On Thursday, September 23, three persons were injured in a shooting incident near the corner of Simon Lamb and Kelly Streets, in the vicinity of Chon Saan Palace and Belize Technical College. At about 6:30 p.m. that evening, 25-year-old Kareem Young of Hunters Lane was walking on Kelly Street when an unknown man with dreadlocks emerged from a red car and fired several shots in his direction, which wounded Young in the right upper thigh.

In addition to Young, two other persons were caught in the barrage of bullets. These persons, later identified as Camryn Briceño of Fabers Road Extension and Emmanuel Westby of Guinea Grass Village, who were walking a short distance behind Young, also received minor non-life-threatening gunshot injuries. Briceño received a gunshot wound to the left hand, while Westby was wounded in the right thigh. Onlookers at the scene included Chon Saan Palace proprietor Lee Mark Chang, who let his pickup be used to transport the victims to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

All three victims were eventually transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where they are being treated for their gunshot wounds. Police canvassed the area following the shooting and were able to obtain surveillance footage. Currently, the Belize Police Department is attempting to use footage received from multiple sources to pinpoint a suspect.
