BELIZE CITY, Sat. Feb. 10, 2018– Another young man has lost his life in the cruel streets of Belize City. Reports are that Norman Tyrone Gibson, 20, of Berry Street, was standing in front of the Michael Finnegan Market at the corner of West Collet Canal and Hicattee Street at about 8:00 last night when a gunman approached him from Hicattee Street and opened fire.

Gibson was hit by five bullets – three in the head, one in the right shoulder, and one in the hip. After firing the deadly shots, the killer escaped into Hicattee Street.

Gibson was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but he was declared dead shortly after his arrival, at about 8:40 that same night.

Police investigators who processed the scene found five expended shells. Police have one man in custody, pending further investigation. So far the motive for Gibson’s murder is unknown.

Gibson had just celebrated his 20th birthday, on February 4.  One of Gibson’s aunts said that her nephew did not kill anyone, and was not a troublemaker. She said he just associated with the wrong people.

She asked God to give them the strength to help them make it through this difficult time, while they grapple with their sudden loss.
