HeadlineHattieville resident Jermaine Curtis Hyde murdered in the city

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Jan. 29, 2018– The senseless gun violence that seems to have the city in its grip has claimed yet another life. Jermaine Curtis Hyde, 38, a resident of Hattieville who worked at the bus terminal on West Collet Canal in Belize City, was found lying on Thurton Lane with a gunshot wound in the back of the head at about 5:00 Saturday morning.

People in the area saw a man on the ground and called police, but he was already dead and his body was taken to the morgue.

During a police press brief held this morning at the Racoon Street Police Station, ASP Alejandro Cowo, Commander of Crimes Investigation, said that Hyde was last seen at the tacos stand at the foot of the main bridge (Swing Bridge) at the corner of Regent and Albert Streets, and was walking home to Thurton Lane, when an unknown gunman approached from behind and fired a shot at him.

Cowo said that Hyde did not live in the city, but stayed at a house on Thurton Lane when he had to work early. It is not known why he was killed; he was not known to police.

So far, no one has been arrested and no suspects detained in connection with the shooting.
