Keron Pinto, 22, a resident of 32 Benbow Street, was remanded to the Hattieville Prison after he was arraigned on a robbery charge which allegedly occurred with the use of a firearm.
According to police, at around 11:55 p.m. on December 31, 2013, Jayford Cacho was riding his bicycle on West Collet Canal. He rode past a group of three men and one of them called out “Bway, Jayford! Haul up!”
Cacho turned to see it was Pinto, with whom he had become acquainted in primary school; so he turned his bike around and went to see what he wanted.
Police reported that Pinto then asked Cacho for a dollar and Cacho replied that he didn’t have any money, which seemed to get Pinto irate. Cacho was again asked for some money, and he gave the same response.
According to police, an orange colored handgun was pointed in Cacho’s face, after which one of the men began punching Cacho. Cacho said that Pinto searched his right pants pocket and found his white Apple iPod, valued at $2,500.
The men allegedly “jacked” Cacho’s iPod then rode off, making good their escape—or so Pinto must have thought.
Cacho reported the matter to police who immediately apprehended Pinto. Police said that they found Cacho’s iPod in his possession, and he told police he had gotten from one of his friends.
Pinto pleaded not guilty to the charge, but because the crime was allegedly committed with a gun, he was remanded to prison.
Pinto is scheduled to reappear in court on March 10, 2014.
