SAN IGNACIO TOWN, Tues. Dec. 22, 2015–A San Ignacio cop has been detained pending investigation into an allegation that he raped a woman while she was detained at the San Ignacio Police Station, at about 5:30 Sunday morning.

The woman, 25, of Bullet Tree, Cayo District, told police that early that morning, while she was in custody at the police station, a police constable came to her cell, took her out and took her to a room in the station, and raped her. After he had finished, the officer took her back to her cell, the woman told police.

The alleged crime became known when the victim told another police officer what had happened, and the accused cop was detained, pending investigation.

The woman had been detained after reportedly being involved in an argument which led to a fight that Saturday night in San Ignacio.
