Now a category 1 hurricane, the system is moving along the southwest coast of Mexico and strengthening, according to the National Hurricane Center.

BELIZE CITY. Mon. July 4, 2022 The third hurricane of the season, Bonnie, is slowly making its way along the coast of southern Mexico and strengthening, according to the 10:00 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

The system made landfall on the Caribbean coast between Nicaragua and Costa Rica last Friday and has since ripped through Central America, claiming up to 5 lives so far, before heading back over the waters of the Eastern Pacific. Reports are that 4 persons were washed away by the swollen rivers in Nicaragua. One man, 43-year-old Juan Carlos Alemán Mendoza, reportedly died while trying to save passengers from a local school bus that was washed away by the flooding.

In El Salvador, one person has been confirmed dead: a young lady; and one man is still missing and being

searched for.
“…BRINGING ROUGH SURF

AND THREAT OF RIP CURRENTS TO PORTIONS OF THE

COAST OF SOUTHERN MEXICO…,” this morning’s advisory from the NHC noted. Mariners have been warned that the surf and rip current could be life-threatening.

At this time, it seems that the storm is headed out to open water, since there are no coastal watch warnings in place, but persons living along the southern and southwestern coast of Mexico are asked to monitor the progress of the storm.
