BELIZE CITY, Sun. Sept. 29, 2024

Leon O’Brien reclaimed his crown as Belize’s premier long-distance runner when he won the 4th annual Belize City Council’s Half Marathon (21 kilometers) race under pouring rain, while Chrystal Thomas won the women’s category, on the Princess Margaret Drive and Newtown Barracks circuit in Belize City on Sunday morning, September 29.

Belize City Councilor, Kaya Cattouse awarded cash prizes to all top 5 finishers in each category, and all runners received medals of achievement.

Below are the results according to race categories:

Men’s 21K: 1st Place – Leon O’Brien (Team Splash, Belize City, 1:12:30.8); 2nd Francisco Lima (Team Splash, Flores, Péten, 1:16:57.9); 3rd Albert Davis (Team Splash, Lucky Strike, 1:17:27.1); 4th Jesus Contreras (Team Splash Elite, San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, 1:21:02.2); 5th Miguel Escamilla (Club Vlady Maraton, Playa del Carmen, Q.Roo, 1:23:01.1); 6th Amir Castilla (Team Splash, Orange Walk, 1:27:43.6); 7th Willie Dale (Belize City, 1:32:32.2); 8th Egbert Augustine (Team Splash Elite, Placencia, 1:33:46.5); 9th Edwin Garnett (Westrac Slick Runners, Belize City, 1:37:47.9); 10th Eddy Herrarte (Team Splash, Guatemala, 1:47:29.4).

Women’s 21K: 1st Place – Chrystal Thomas (Team Splash, Sarteneja, 1:41:49.8); 2nd Carmen Castilla (Team Splash, Orange Walk, 1:44:14.5); 3rd Lizbeth De La Cruz (Club Vlady Maraton, Playa del Carmen, 1:51:05); 4th Dorsha Sabido (Quench UR Thirst, Belize City, 1:53:08.6); 5th Alma Pinelo (BNCG, Belize City, 2:10:03.7).
