BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Apr. 10, 2025

Caesar Ridge FC and Tut Bay FC kicked off the first week of the Belize District Football Association (BDFA) 2024-2025 Closing Season First Division tournament with big wins at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City on Sunday evening, April 6.

In Game 1, the 2023 champions, Tut Bay FC enjoyed sweet revenge on last season’s champions, Survivors FC, as Ken Galvez (9’) and Tom Moguel (85’) delivered the winning goals for their 2-1 win. The only fly in the ointment was that Tut Bay defender Devin Thurton (4’ own goal) had erred in sending the ball into his own net to put Survivors on the scoreboard first.

In Game 2, last season’s semifinalists, Reggae Boyz struggled to a scoreless stalemate with the Old Road Defenders. Keiffer “Beefy” Perteau and Harold Thompson led the Reggae Boyz’ attacks, supported by veteran midfield general Ryan Simpson, Dion Cacho, Albert Davis and Trey Gentle. Darren Leal anchored the Old Road defense with Alfred Garnett, Nigel Grant and Augustine Smith to help goalkeeper Tevin Hernandez keep a clean slate.

Down at the other end, Kevin Young and Keeron Young led the Old Road offensive, supported by Denroy McCord, Kevaugn Reyes, and Alvin Dawson at midfield. Dejean Thompson led the Reggae Boyz’ defense, with Corey Perteau, Peter Morgan, and Jaylyn Thomas, and nothing got past goalkeeper Edward Humes: 0-0, final score!

In Game 3, Caesar Ridge FC schooled the Kelly Street Bombers, 3-0, with goals by Ajani Vaughn (4’), Lawnie Leslie (39’) and Devin McCaulay (87’). Ajani Vaughn capitalized on the bounce of a high ball that sent goalkeeper Derrick Engleton and defender Ryan Gill scrambling to catch up, as Vaughn caught the ball in midflight to boot it into the net: 1-0. First half was almost over when Lawnie Leslie caught Engleton off his line with a long lob from midfield that sailed over Engleton’s head, to sail in just under the crossbar: 2-0 golazo! Late in the game Engleton rejected one attack, only to allow McCaulay to recover the rebound and slot it into the empty goal: 3-0.

Steven “Bredds” Baizar and Adgar Adderly led Kelly Street’s counterattack, with the help of Quince Briceño, Delroy “Thinman” Andrews, Lemar Whyte and Jalen Clother. But the Caesar Ridge defenders, Barack Morey, Kishane Magdaleno, Paschalito Oyamadu and Dion David were having none of it, as they locked up shop to help goalkeeper Shakeem Richards secure the 3-0 victory.
