General166 police officers promoted; some transferred

The Police Department has promoted and transferred a number of police officers. A hundred and sixty-six officers were promoted across the whole structure of the department. The promotions were awarded to the deserving officers yesterday at the Police Training Academy in Belmopan, by Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie and Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of National Security.

Commissioner Whylie said that three of the officers were promoted because of acts of bravery and heroism on their part. One of these officers single-handedly captured a dangerous bank robber in Belmopan, and the other two officers chased, captured and disarmed a gunman who had shot a man who died shortly after.

The gunman is now awaiting trial for murder.

The other seven officers were promoted because of being professional at all times and exhibiting maximum dedication to duty.

Among those who were promoted is Assistant Commissioner Miguel Segura, who has risen to the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police, and has been posted to the Belmopan National Police Headquarters.

Also promoted from Senior Superintendent to Acting Commissioner of Police was Dezerie Jacklyn Phillips, who takes over from DCP Segura as head of Eastern Division Police – one of the largest police formations in the country.

Assistant Superintendent Juliet Anderson has been promoted to Superintendent and posted as the Commander of Precinct 3 at the Queen Street Police Station. She was previously the Deputy Commander of Precinct 1 under the command of Superintendent Alden Dawson. She took over the command from Superintendent Gualberto Garcia.

Superintendent Alden Dawson, Commander of Precinct 1, has been promoted to Senior Superintendent.

Sgt. Delvin Zuniga has been promoted to Inspector and posted to San Pedro from Caye Caulker.

Corporal Lenancio Bol has been promoted to Sergeant, and Constable Jermain Pook has been promoted to Corporal, and both have been transferred to San Pedro from Belize City.

Details of the extensive promotions will be highlighted in the next edition of the Amandala.
