BELIZE CITY, Wed. May 31, 2023

It’s not “Grassroots” football; the kids in the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) U-13 Mundialito Tournament 2023 are fiercely competitive, and as Week 6 in the competition rolled along on Saturday, May 27, at the artificial-turfed Berger Field, there are now 10 male teams left in the tournament, as Face of Belize has reportedly dropped out after their chances of making the playoffs seemed close to nil.

Four male (M) games and two female (F) games were played this past weekend.

In the opener at 9:00 a.m., (M) Hattieville United dropped Smart Brown Bombers, 2-1, with Hattieville players accounting for all 3 goals scored. Amir Ahmad and Ajay Staine scored 1 apiece for Hattieville, while Ashir Ahmad of Hattieville scored an own goal which was credited to Bombers.

Game two (M) saw Tutbay Yabra continuing on their undefeated way with a 2-0 win over Reality Youths, courtesy of 2 goals from Kyrone Martinez.

The scheduled (M) game 3 at 10:40 a.m. was a (3-0) win “by forfeit” for Sampson Academy over Queen Square.

The last male (M) game of the day at 11:30 a.m. saw Jonathan Garay scoring both goals to lead Belize United to the 2-0 win over Pickstock.

Game 5 of the day at 12:20 p.m. was a (F) draw, 0-0, between Queen Square and Unity Presbyterian.

And in game 6 at 1:00 p.m. to end the day, (F) Millenium Academy shut out Salvation United, 2-0, with a goal apiece from Trenice Amaya and Clavian Swazo.

The action doubles up this coming weekend with Week 7 games on Saturday and Week 8 games on Sunday, (one Female-F game only), all at Berger Field.
