Jerry Solwin Romero dies at 23, victim of hit-and-run

GeneralJerry Solwin Romero dies at 23, victim of hit-and-run
Jerry Solwin Romero, 23, a salesperson with a company, CP’s Building, located on Iguana Street, is dead after being the victim of a hit-and-run accident in the city over the weekend.

Police say that sometime around 1:30 on Saturday morning, March 17, they responded to a call about a traffic accident on Cemetery Road near the Pound Yard Bridge.

When they arrived, they saw a gray and black scooter extensively damaged, and a man with severe head and body injuries was seen lying nearby.

The victim has since been identified as Jerry Solwin Romero. He apparently was riding his scooter along Cemetery Road when upon reaching the bridge, he was hit by a gray Ford vehicle, which did not stop, but speed off.

Police rushed Romero to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Police are still searching for the driver of the Ford.

Tonight, Romero’s family is heart-broken by the tragedy, and is begging the driver of the vehicle to surrender to police.

Late this evening, Amandala spoke with Frank Romero, 31, Jerry’s brother, who told us that at this moment, they do not know if there was any eyewitness to the accident.

Frank told the newspaper that when he saw his brother, he observed a large gash on the right side of the forehead.

Doctors told them that Jerry had sustained a broken right foot and that he had suffered internal bleeding, which complicated his condition and later took his life that same day.

A post-mortem, which was scheduled for today, was rescheduled for tomorrow.

While they wait for police to make an identification of the driver, Frank told Amandala that they later learned that Romero after being hit, got up and tried to walk, but stumbled and then collapsed to the ground.

This is what persons who may not have actually seen the accident, but who had rushed to his aid, told them, said Frank.

According to Frank, the doctor told them that if Romero had been rushed immediately to the hospital, it would have made a difference where the internal bleeding was concerned.

Jerry Romero was not married and had no children. He was the baby of his family.

According to his brother, Jerry, who was out celebrating with three of his friends, had just dropped home one of his friends. At the time of the accident, he was heading back to the Princess Hotel and Casino to pick up another friend, who was out partying with him.

Frank said his brother had plans to visit the cayes this weekend to relax with friends and celebrate his one-year anniversary working at CP’s Building.

Funeral service for Jerry Solwin Romero is scheduled for sometime this week.
