Seven Mexican nationals who news sources in Mexico say are well-known underworld figures of the infamous Caborca Cartel in Mexico were detained by Belizean authorities in Corozal Town on Sunday, August 20. News sources in Mexico alleged that they were on a mission to eliminate a well-known drug lord in Corozal.
Reports suggest that the group of men was intercepted by Belizean authorities because while at a checkpoint they had raised the suspicion of cops. The men reportedly entered the country with false passport documents under the pretense of owning a construction company and being road consultants, part of a project being done by UNDP. The above information is yet to be confirmed to the public and local media by Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams.
According to news sources in Chetumal, Mexico, these men have been involved in several recent shootings in that area. Reports suggest that their aim is to take control of the “territory” of the intended target, the well-known drug figure in the north.
While speaking to the local media, ComPol Williams noted that the men were moved from the Corozal Police Station to an undisclosed location for safety reasons.
“I’m not going to disclose which station they are currently at because you will know again, that may pose some threat to the police officers working within that particular station. But again, for their safety and the safety of the police officers, we moved them to an undisclosed location at this time where they are currently being interviewed,” he said.
