He is a tailor by profession and his business is located at #14 New Road.
But this afternoon, Angel Arias appeared in the Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Albert Hoare, where he was arraigned on a charge of aggravated assault.
Police are alleging that Arias committed an aggravated assault of an indecent nature upon a fourteen-year-old minor, who had visited his tailor shop on Friday, June 12. The young girl had gone to the shop to take measurements for her school uniform when the incident allegedly occurred.
At first, the prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the offence with which Arias is charged falls under the list of offences for which the Magistrate’s Court cannot offer bail, according to the stipulations of the Amendment to the Crime Control Act.
But after the Magistrate adjourned the arraignment for a few minutes so that the prosecutor could look up the relevant section of the law under which Arias is charged, the prosecutor returned to the courtroom and told Magistrate Hoare that the offence was one for which the Magistrate’s Court could offer bail.
Magistrate Hoare then offered Arias bail of $5,000, plus one surety for the same amount.
Arias pleaded not guilty to the charge and the case was adjourned until July 20, 2007.
