CrimeOne detained in Free Zone burglary investigation

Police investigating a burglary of the Shivam Store in the Corozal Free Zone that occurred between 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, and 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, in which thieves got away with over $50,000 BZ and over 95 thousand Mexican pesos have detained a man who is an employee of the store and are looking for another employee, who is now on the run.

Kishin Chand Khemlan, 42, a Belizean businessman residing in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, told police that when he and his workers arrived at work on Wednesday morning, they found the business place burglarized. Khemlan said the thieves stole a total of $50,916.66, comprised of Belize and US dollars, and Mexican pesos.

The businessman said that nothing else was stolen from within the store.

The person detained, if arrested, could be charged with aiding and abetting a burglary. Police believe that the heist was an inside job carried out by the two employees, who deliberately left the backdoor unlocked, and disabled the security cameras.

Police announced that a warrant for the arrest of Alexander Pech of San Narciso Village has been issued. They said that he is vital to their investigation.
